Handcrafted Multi-Bar Forge Welded Pendant – Unique Patterned Necklace from Pitstone Forge Anglo Saxon/Viking These striking necklace pendants are handcrafted using a traditional multi-bar forge welding technique, layering multiple bars of steel to create a mesmerising, one-of-a-kind pattern. The multi-bar method results in unique swirling designs throughout the metal, with each pendant bearing its own distinctive character, ensuring no two are exactly alike. Forged by hand at Pitstone Forge, these pendants embody the timeless artistry of blacksmithing. The layering process highlights the complexity of the steelwork, making each piece both durable and beautifully intricate. Pattern welding is a traditional technique used by Anglo-Saxon and Viking blacksmiths to create strong, beautiful blades. This method involves layering different types of iron or steel, then forge-welding them together to form a single piece. The blacksmith would twist and manipulate the layers to create intricate patterns that not only enhanced the blade’s aesthetics but also its functionality. This technique produced swords and knives that were both durable and flexible, ideal for the rigours of battle. Pattern-welded blades often featured unique designs, making each weapon a work of art that reflected the skill and artistry of its maker. Details Each pattern welded billet is approximately 28mm x 38mm, made from two different carbon steels, one with extra nickel to give the pendant its contrasting pattern. The reverse of the pendant has also been polished and etched. These pendants also have a historic wrought iron edge added to the steel. Each pendant it presented in a recycled Kraft presentation box and is suspended on a waxed cotton braided cord and polished brass necklace bail.
